あ(Ah) is a very concept dependent character in Japanese. It is very flexible, and can be use in many different situations. It also expresses various emotion. Kenta Watashima created this piece to reflect the emotional nuances of the use of  “あ” [ah] in the Japanese highly context -dependent culture. As people interacts with this piece, various sounds of “あ” [ah] are expressed.  It encourages people to realise the possibility of  the character, and the relationship between a character and its meaning.

 


 

 

This object invites viewers to ponder how various and complex are the ways we see, relate to and think about the use of language, object, characters and reality.
